I played through Gears of War myself recently. It was rather fun to play through and multiplayer deathmatch over LAN is awesome. However, it just isn’t worth any of those insane scores magazines have been giving it.
There are too many bugs, almost no storytelling to speak of and it’s way too easy on PC. Ok, the final mission was somewhat difficult at the highest difficulty level available first time through. It’s fun and I might give it a 7.5 purely for enjoyability, but it’s no Half Life.
The ending does promise some better storytelling (more questions answered) for the sequel, so that game might score a fair bit better.
